通常情况下水蒸汽是饱和蒸汽,就是在锅炉内,水被加热蒸发而产生。在有水的情况下,无论如何加热,得到的始终是饱和蒸汽。

但是如果将锅炉产出的饱和蒸汽输送出去,再次加热,由于没有液态水的补充,就会形成温度更高,但是不饱和的蒸汽,此时的蒸汽叫过热蒸汽。

蒸汽是化工生产过程的重要热力来源,过热蒸汽可以提供更高的加热温度。下表为过热蒸汽密度表。
